Chief Technology Officer

John Absmeier

John Absmeier was named chief technology officer of Lear Corporation in June 2018. He leads all aspects of the company’s technology and innovation efforts.

Before joining Lear, Absmeier was senior vice president and general manager for the Autonomous/ADAS Strategic Business Unit at Harman International, and vice president, smart machines, at Samsung Electronics, where he led Samsung’s acquisition of Harman. Previously, he had a 19-year career at Delphi with roles of increasing responsibility in the areas of hybrid and electric vehicles, fuel cells and telematics, culminating in positions such as founder and managing director of Delphi Labs @ Silicon Valley and autonomous driving, as well as business director for electronic controls and electrification in Asia-Pacific. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps for eight years.

Absmeier earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering and management technology from the University of California at Berkeley. He has attended senior executive MBA programs at the University of Michigan and Thunderbird School of Global Management.

Absmeier serves on the board of directors for Sensata Technologies, Navmatic and SoftWear Automation. Through American Corporate Partners (ACP), a national nonprofit organization, he works with military veterans and active duty spouses to help them find their next careers through one-on-one mentoring, networking and online career advice.
